Marie Antoinette Purple Series: Cosmos (8 X 8 in)
Marie Antoinette Purple Series: Cosmos (8 X 8 in)
From the Marie Antoinette Purple Series, this 8 X 8 in handmade decoupage-on-glass plate features one of the most the famous portraits of Marie Antoinette, painted by François-Hubert Drouais in 1773, when she was eighteen. The illustrated china plate in the background is from Russia, circa late 1800s. Gold doilies frame each corner and pearls float in a deep black cosmos. The interplay between background and foreground is pushed to the limit: a dream within a dream, and nothing is ever what it seems. Edged in gold leaf, the back of this 8 inch round, glass plate is covered in handmade paper with gold scrollwork.
Handmade, decoupage-under-glass plate(s). Original collage-image created from unique image sources including historic, vintage and original artworks.
