The Grey Series
A series of three plates, these center around the infamous portrait of Marie Antoinette, age 13 painter in 1767 by the Swedish-Austrian artist, Martin van Meytens. The portrait was commissioned to be sent to the Dauphin of France, her husband-to-be, (of similar age), so that he could see what his future wife looked like. By the end, vintage botanical elements are introduced: a single blood-red rose and the classic pink flamingo. Marie herself, is becoming enmeshed in the fabric of the riches that surround and even come to define her, ultimately overshadowing her own identity.
